Heck NO! I would NEVER compare God to a chicken! So, imagine my surprise when HE does!
I never knew that about a mother hen .... if she senses danger she will start to scream "GET OVER HERE NOW!!!" then she will completely cover all of her chicks with her own body to protect them. Watch the example I found... (you can find most anything on YouTube!)

Interesting! PROTECTION IS NOT AUTOMATIC!
God LONGS to protect us! But he won't force us to listen, to go where he is. He will send warnings, he will cry out "GET OVER HERE NOW!!!" but we don't listen, because "we know better", or we think that it really doesn't matter what we do, God will always protect us....

Seriously, have you ever felt a little nudge from the Spirit to not buy something, but you wanted it so bad that you ignored the nudge and bought it anyway? then suffered the consequenes later!
I SURE HAVE!
Have you ever been in a conversation with someone and felt the nudge "don't go there, don't say that" and later be confronted with your words.... maybe they were about someone, and they found out and challenged you! I SURE HAVE!
Unfortunately, if you continue to ignore the warnings, they will get quieter, and quieter, and suddenly disappear... its like we are walking further and further from the source and we finally get so far that we just can't hear anymore. SCARY! SCARY!!! I NEVER, EVER, want to be "out there" unable to hear the warnings.
OR, worst yet... God will be even louder with his warnings... and put a HUGE sign on the road ... "DANGER AHEAD" and STILL we ignore it! Example: in Malachi 3 he warns us about the results of not tithing
So, basically, our God LONGS to protect, but it isn't automatic, you have to pay attention and RUN when he says RUN!!!
One more "feather/protection" verse .... (but, again, it isn't automatic...see the obedience required in Psalm 91)

Malachi 3:9-10But do all Christians tithe?! NO! And then they wonder why they have finanical problems! I will confess, this is probably one of my biggest faults! I am SO GUILTY and SO PAY THE PRICE! I have all kinds of "reasons", but doesn't matter what the reason, the curse is still there, PERIOD!
You are under a curse—your whole nation—because you are robbing me. 10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house.
