Have you ever had one of those days when the Holy Spirit in you does flip-flops in your heart… or something happens on the inside of you that is near impossible to explain?
That was my today. I was sitting here this afternoon at the computer and a church service came on the tv downstairs. They started playing an old hymn that the Holy Spirit in me clearly loved because tears came to my eyes and “that ache” welled up in my chest. You know “that ache” the one that expresses that love that is impossible to describe. I’m thinking that it is a love that cannot possibly be directed towards a person like it is towards the Lord… I know I’ve never felt this love pain towards any person! And it usually happens when you least expect it… Like when driving, or again tonight while I was watching something on the Food Network but thinking about this blog and what I wanted to say about “WAITING”. (but that will be another day now). I was really meditating more on the Word than watching the show… It happened again, suddenly, my eyes filled with tears and my heart started the aching thing again. Honestly, I really don’t know how to put it into words! But, I hope you get to experience it because it is incredible! I do know that you can't make it happen... I listen to Jesus music all the time...and meditate on the Lord all day long... ????
I’m about to tell you a story that may seem to take me off subject but you’ll get it in the end…..
Many years ago I decided to stop having any sort of “Christmas” decorations in my home… Strange, I know, but Christmas is SO SACRED to me that I don’t want any part of the commercialism that comes with the traditional decorations of Christmas. There is absolutely NOTHING Christian about a Christmas tree!...so I’m always a little baffled that Christians fight so hard for it. But, that is definitely a personal thing for me, I don’t judge anyone else for their choices. I just choose not to “do Christmas” the way most people do.
Well, about 11 or 12 years ago I offered my house for the office Christmas party. WAIT! You can’t have an office Christmas party without ANY kind of decorations!! So, I decided to have a “Happy Birthday Jesus” tree…with all things “birthday party” on it.
Thankfully, that year my niece, Ashley and her girls, came to Atlanta to see me during Thanksgiving break. At the time she had two girls (Tori, then 9 or 10, and Alex 4 or 5). I took the girls to Party City and let them pick out all the birthday decorations that could go on a tree… streamers, party hats, I don’t know…you name it, they picked it out… Then, we came home and I had them do all the decorating…we made a birthday cake and when all was done we sang Happy Birthday Jesus and ate ice cream and cake.
....Happy Birthday Jesus! (whatever the real date is....)

At some point during the decorating process I saw Alex (4 or 5) standing off to the side with her hand on her heart almost crying. I asked her what was wrong… she said… “It’s just so sad” I asked why…she said…”…it’s a Happy Birthday Jesus tree…..” I knew that it wasn’t actually sadness she was feeling…it was exactly what I can’t explain that happened to me today
… the Holy Spirit in her was doing flip-flops in her heart.
....Happy Birthday Jesus! (whatever the real date is....)

Ten Commandments
- 1. You shall have no other gods before me.
- 2. You shall not make for yourself any carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.
- 3. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.
- 4. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your manservant, nor your maidservant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.
- 5. Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.
- 6. You shall not murder.
- 7. You shall not commit adultery.
- 8. You shall not steal.
- 9. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
- 10. You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.”
